What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program designed to help eligible Canadians access dental care. Nash Dental is pleased to accept patients covered under the CDCP.
Depending on your eligibility and coverage, the CDCP may contribute toward services such as:
- Dental examinations and X-rays
- Teeth cleaning and preventive care
- Fillings and restorative treatment
- Root canal treatment
- Tooth extractions and oral surgery
- Certain crowns and dentures
Not every procedure is automatically covered. Some treatments may have frequency limitations, clinical requirements or require preauthorization before coverage can be confirmed.

Dentistry, Reimagined
Proudly Accepting CDCP Patients!
Quality Dental Care, With Clear and Transparent Pricing
At Nash Dental, we believe everyone deserves access to quality dental care. That’s why we’re pleased to welcome patients covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
The CDCP is a federal government program designed to help eligible Canadians access dental care by covering a portion of the cost of eligible treatments.
Our team is happy to help you understand your coverage, explain your treatment options, and provide clear information about any out-of-pocket expenses before proceeding with treatment.
Have CDCP coverage? We’d love to welcome you to our dental family!
What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal government program that helps eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance pay for eligible dental services.
Depending on your eligibility and coverage, the CDCP may contribute toward services such as:
- Dental examinations and X-rays
- Teeth cleaning and preventive care
- Fillings and certain restorative treatments
- Root canal treatments
- Tooth extractions and other oral surgery
- Certain crowns and dentures, subject to program requirements
Not every procedure is automatically covered. Some treatments have frequency limits, clinical requirements, or require preauthorization before coverage can be confirmed.
How Does CDCP Coverage Work at Nash Dental?
We want our patients to feel confident about their dental care, including understanding the cost.
Nash Dental follows the current Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Suggested Fee Guide when establishing our standard fees.
The CDCP has its own established fees and reimbursement rates, which may differ from the fees charged by dental offices.
Much like other dental benefit plans, CDCP contributes toward the cost of eligible dental treatment. The amount it pays depends on your coverage level, the procedure being performed, and the CDCP’s established reimbursement amount.
Patients are responsible for any applicable co-payment, the difference between our fees and the amount reimbursed by CDCP, and any services not covered by the plan, subject to applicable program rules.
We will explain your estimated coverage and any anticipated patient portion before proceeding with treatment.
How Much Will CDCP Cover?
Your coverage percentage is determined by your adjusted family net income.
Adjusted Family Net Income | CDCP Coverage | Patient Co-payment |
|---|---|---|
Under $70,000 | 100% | 0% |
70,000–79,999 | 60% | 40% |
80,000–89,999 | 40% | 60% |
Important: These percentages apply to CDCP-established fees for eligible services, not necessarily the total fee charged by your dental office.
What Does That Mean for Your Dental Bill?
Here’s a simplified example to help you understand how CDCP coverage works.
Example: A dental procedure costing $200
Suppose Nash Dental charges $200 for an eligible procedure, and the CDCP’s established fee for that procedure is $180.
- Nash Dental treatment fee: $200
- CDCP established fee: $180
- Difference between fees: $20
Your estimated costs at different coverage levels would be:
Your CDCP Coverage | CDCP Pays | You Pay |
|---|---|---|
100% coverage | $180 | $20 |
60% coverage | $108 | $92 |
40% coverage | $72 | $128 |
Even with 100% CDCP coverage, this patient would pay $20 because the plan’s established fee is lower than the dental office’s fee.
These amounts are hypothetical and are not actual Nash Dental or CDCP fees. Actual costs depend on the procedure, current fee schedules, eligibility, and applicable coverage limitations.
Our goal is to make sure you understand your estimated costs before treatment begins, so you can make informed decisions about your dental care.
How Do I Use My CDCP Coverage at Nash Dental?
Step 1: Confirm Your CDCP Coverage
Before your appointment, make sure your CDCP coverage is active. You can check your coverage information through the Government of Canada or Sun Life.
Step 2: Book Your Appointment
Contact Nash Dental Kanata and let our team know that you have CDCP coverage.
Please have your CDCP member ID and coverage start date available.
Step 3: Review Your Treatment and Estimated Costs
Our team will review your dental needs, verify available coverage, and explain any anticipated out-of-pocket expenses.
Some treatments may require preauthorization before coverage can be confirmed.
Step 4: Receive Your Dental Care
Once you understand and agree to your treatment plan, we’ll proceed with your care.
Nash Dental will submit eligible claims directly to Sun Life, and you’ll pay the applicable patient portion.
CDCP Enrollment and Annual Renewal
Before receiving treatment, please ensure that your Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) coverage is active and that you provide our team with your current coverage information. It is the patient’s responsibility to maintain active CDCP coverage and provide accurate information before treatment. If coverage is inactive, expired, or cannot be verified, the patient remains responsible for any fees associated with services provided.
CDCP eligibility must be renewed each year and does not automatically continue indefinitely. Your coverage period and renewal date are specific to you, so we encourage patients to check their renewal information and reapply when required to avoid an interruption in coverage. If you are unsure about your current CDCP status, our team would be happy to help you verify your coverage before your appointment.
FAQs
Does Nash Dental Kanata accept CDCP patients?
Yes! We welcome patients covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
Whether you’re looking for a new family dentist, need a dental examination, or have specific treatment needs, our team would be happy to help.
Is dental care completely free with CDCP?
Not necessarily.
While the CDCP can significantly reduce your dental expenses, it does not guarantee that all treatment costs will be covered.
Even patients with 100% coverage may have an out-of-pocket expense if their dental office’s fees exceed the CDCP’s established reimbursement amounts.
Why is there a difference between the CDCP fee and the ODA fee guide?
The CDCP establishes its own reimbursement amounts independently of the provincial dental association fee guides.
At Nash Dental, our standard fees are based on the ODA Suggested Fee Guide.
When the CDCP reimburses less than our treatment fee, the difference is generally payable by the patient, subject to applicable program rules.
We apply this approach consistently and transparently, and our team will explain anticipated costs before treatment.
Will I know what I have to pay before treatment?
Yes!
Our team will review your treatment plan, available coverage, and estimated patient portion before proceeding.
Please note that estimates are not guarantees of payment. Final reimbursement is determined by Sun Life according to the CDCP’s eligibility requirements, fee schedules, coverage limitations, and applicable rules at the time of treatment.
Do I have to pay the entire dental bill and submit it myself?
No.
For eligible CDCP services, Nash Dental submits claims directly to Sun Life and receives the applicable plan payment.
You are responsible for the remaining amount not covered by the plan, subject to applicable program rules.
CDCP members cannot submit their own claims to Sun Life for reimbursement.
Can I receive treatment that CDCP doesn’t cover?
Absolutely!
Your dental treatment decisions remain between you and your dentist.
If a recommended treatment isn’t covered by CDCP, we’ll explain your options and the associated costs so you can decide how you’d like to proceed.
Can I combine CDCP with my private dental insurance?
Generally, no.
The CDCP is intended for eligible individuals without access to private dental insurance.
Certain government-funded dental programs may coordinate benefits with CDCP under specific rules.
How do I apply for CDCP?
Applications and eligibility information are available through the Government of Canada.
Visit the official Canadian Dental Care Plan website to learn more about eligibility, applications, and coverage.
